Favourite Photographs of 2025!

Favourite Photographs of 2025

Here is a selection of twelve of my favourite photographs of 2025. Most have a brief  description written at the time of publishing. Upon reflection, 2025 was a great year for my work. I was feeling motivated to create, and making a conscious effort to slow down the entire process. I no longer felt the pressure to post on various platforms in a timely manner. I was making photographs that made me happy, striving to capture the light and mood of the scenes and details I was compelled to stop and consider.
I'm located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia and you can see from my photograph locations that I really don't feel the need to travel far to find beautiful scenes and subjects. Some are only a short walk from my door!
I hope you enjoy my personal favourites here and find something that resonates with you!

The Photographs

Snow Storm, Reservoir Park in Wolfville, N.S. 2025

A Fiery Sunrise, Deportation Cross at Horton Landing, N.S. 2025

On the morning of oct. 08th I decided rather quickly to change my plans and head directly to Horton Landing and the site of the Deportation Cross when I saw the cloud formations at first light. Years of experience have given me an ability to predict a very nice sunrise. It was necessary to hold down the tripod with all of my weight due to the wind! Exceptional light.

Autumn Moonset, Grand Pré National Historic Site, N.S. 2025

The full Hunter's Moon shines brightly through the dawn haze as it sets over the Memorial Church at Grand Pré Park.

Lily Pads and Reflected Tree, Grand Pré Park, N.S. 2025

Autumn leaves reflected in the willow pools at sunset in Grand Pré Park.

Frosted Leaves, Cape Blomidon, N.S. 2025

Through careful observation of my surroundings and using mindfulness I can spend an hour or more just looking for compositions on the forest floor such as this one. The detail is extraordinary here.

Early Snowfall, Grand Pré National Historic Site, N.S. 2025

I have a little tradition where I head out to the Grand Pré Park for some photographs early in the morning on the day of our first real snowfall. I have a strong connection to this place, growing up nearby and I'll always appreciate the beauty here and not take it for granted.

Late Autumn Embers, Cape Blomidon, N.S. 2025

The last of the Autumn leaves glow in the light at sunrise on a hike through Blomidon Provincial Park.

Early Morning Walk, Grand Pré Dykeland, N.S. 2025

Autumn Forest, Black River, N.S. 2025

Intimate woodland photographs are my favourite to make. I definitely find this work the most engaging and challenging on a personal level. The game of finding some order in the chaos!

Spring Blossoms in the Annapolis Valley, Greenwich N.S. 2025

A Sunday morning walk through the peach blossoms in Greenwich, Nova Scotia.

Frozen Twilight, Grand Pré Park, 2025

An icy walk in Grand Pré this morning well before sunrise. I have missed being out in the twilight and conditions were perfect this morning for some beautiful first light!

Late Autumn Leaves, Forest Floor off Gaspereau River Trail, N.S. 2025

Forest floor photograph I made yesterday while exploring along the Gaspereau River. Rich textures and a beautiful palette of Autumn decay make for a striking image.

Thank you for having a look at my photographs this year. It is always a pleasure to share them throughout the year and a difficult task to choose which to select. 2025 wasn't without some serious challenges, as we all face at times. When I look back and ponder these images, each immediately takes me back to the time and place where I captured them. I remember the feelings of content and appreciation for the beauty all around us. It is a matter of taking a few minutes to stop and simply enjoy being outside in our favourite places. Especially in times like this.

I hope for all the best in 2026!

Take care,

Chris Sheppard
